Vets

Chris Harrison BVSc. MRCVS

Chris Graduated from Liverpool University in 1997 and started his career in a large practice in Lancashire. After spending several years locumming and travelling in both the UK and abroad he returned home to vet practice in West Cumbria, and became a partner in 2006.

Chris works with both pets and large animals and is based at our Egremont surgery. He is particularly keen on the farm and equine side of the practice. As a father of three boys, his family time is spent enjoying fishing, swimming and football.

Mark Geddes Mark Geddes BVMS BSAVA GPCert SAS MRCVS

Mark graduated from the Glasgow University in 2006 and, apart for a brief stint on the locum circuit, has spent his time practising in west Cumbria. He  joined the partnership in 2013 following the retirement of Steve Smith.

He is a genuinely mixed practitioner,  however spends most of his time in small animal work. Main areas of interest include small animal surgery with emphasis on orthopaedics. He recently was awarded a British Small animal Veterinary association post graduate certificate in small animal Surgery

A father of 3 and A big fan of rugby union, he follows Glasgow warriors and the Scottish national team whenever he can

Mel Fryer BVM&S certAVP(SAM) GPcert (DI) MRCVS

Mel graduated from Edinburgh University in 1999 and has been with the practice since 2005, following time spent in various practices including a large animal internship in Canada and in equine practice in Lancashire. Her main areas of interest are in small animal practice and after extensive extra study Mel has completed the RCVS Advanced Practitioner certificate in small animal medicine.

Alison Maxwell MA VetMB GP cert (SAS) MRVCS

Alison graduated from Cambridge University in 1994 and has worked in mixed practice in West Cumbria ever since. She joined West Lakeland Veterinary Group in 2006 and  has recently achieved a postgraduate certificate in small animal surgery – GP cert (SAS).

Home is a National Trust beef suckler and sheep farm in Ennerdale, so her farmer husband and two children keep her busy when away from the practice!

Laura Fisher BVMS MRCVS

Laura graduated from Glasgow University in 2016 and joined the team soon afterwards. Laura has a keen interest in all aspects of veterinary work, both large and small, having been brought up around sheep, cattle and horses on her family’s farm. In her spare time she enjoys fell walking with her dog Willow and riding her horse.

Katie Ord BVMS MRCVS

Katie graduated from Glasgow University in 2019 and joined the practice shortly afterwards. She is interested in all aspects of large animal and small animal medicine and surgery. In her spare time Katie enjoys athletics and has competed for Scotland in the hammer throw.

Izzie Wattam BVM&S MRCVS

Izzie graduated from Edinburgh university in 2023 and joined us shortly afterwards, she had previously undertaken several placements with us as a vet student. She is originally from the south lakes and is enjoying being back home in Cumbria. She enjoys seeing everyones pets and horses as well as being out and about on the farms. In her spare time she enjoys playing netball and walking her labrador, Nova.

Phil Shepherd

Phil graduated from Cambridge and has worked for many years in mixed practice before focusing more on small animals. He joined the practice in 2021, and works on a part time basis. He enjoys living in Wasdale with his wife and border collie, Skye.

Becky Justice BSc(hons) BVetMed MRCVS

Becky graduated from the Royal Veterinary College (London) in 2022 and joined the team soon after. She is interested in both small and large animal medicine and surgery. In her spare time Becky enjoys walking in the fells and exploring the lake district.

Declan McIntyre DVM MRCVS

Declan qualified first as a vet nurse before studying Veterinary medicine and Pharmacy in Kosice, Slovakia and qualifying in 2023.
Declan grew up in Donegal, Ireland and during work experience there, decided to pursue a career in mixed animal practice. Aside from enjoying the variety of general mixed practice, his particular interests include sheep medicine, poultry, small animal dentistry and orthopaedics.
